The First Stone
2026 | Oil on canvas | 80 × 100 × 4 cm
In my contemporary figurative painting, I explore the human condition, often from several psychological and philosophical perspectives.
This painting began with a biblical thought that has always felt deeply human to me: “Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone.”
I imagined an aging woman who still holds that stone in her hand. She has grown old with it, yet she cannot bring herself to throw it.
But this is only one of the thoughts behind the painting.
As with much of my art, other perspectives emerged during the painting process. Questions about human nature, judgment, vulnerability and what it means to be human.
I don't want to define what this painting should mean to someone else. There is more than one way to look at it, and I am interested in what others discover for themselves.
